This is for you, Dad

On October 1, 2011 I lost a very important person in my life, my dad.  I took an emergency trip our to California and got  to see my dad while he was still in the hospital.  The 3 days that he was in the hospital the ICU was brimming with family and friends who were there to see my dad.  There were at least 50 people at one time in the ICU.  The man was definitely loved.

His funeral was beautiful and it was everything that he would have wanted it to be.  Over 200 people came to pay their respects to a kind, generous and happy man.

We let balloons go in his memory and for his upcoming birthday.

For those of you who don’t know my dad, he was a kind, non-judgmental, generous and happy person.  Regardless of the choices I have made in my life, my dad was there to support me.  He did his best to make sure I never went without, but also made sure that he raised an independent daughter.  Words cannot express the love and respect I had for him.  He is in a better place now and I know that he is watching over me.

My father was many great things and among those things he was a great baker.  He was well known for his fruit tart, a buttery pie crust with frangipane, custard and topped with fresh fruit.  In honor of my dad, I made a fruit tart.  I used his recipe and it was my first time making it.  I wanted to make my dad proud.

I used raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and mandarin oranges.

The beautiful tart

This is for you, dad, a loving husband, father and papa.  Thank you for everything!  You will never be forgotten and you will be missed every minute of everyday.

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I also lost my father this year – back in January but I’m still devastated and think about him all the time. It sure looks like your dad had a lot of folks who loved him. That’s wonderful. I’m sure he was a very special person.

Take care, You are not alone in your grieving.
